Where we work.

Canterbury, the downland villages south and east of the city, and the woodland-edge villages towards the Blean. Three distinct landscapes, three different sets of hedge problems.

The city

The walled city and its immediate Victorian belt. Most of this area is inside one of Canterbury City Council's 97 conservation areas — work on any tree over 75mm needs six weeks' notice, which we file on your behalf. Soil is mixed: thin chalk on the higher ground, deep loam down in the Stour valley.

The Blean fringe

The villages strung along the edge of Blean Woods — one of the largest blocks of ancient woodland in southern England. Dormouse country. Native mixed hedgerows, larger rural plots. Different cut-back protocol than the city gardens. Read the dormouse guide.

The downland villages

The Nailbourne chalk-stream valley and the rolling country south and east of the city. Mature beech, hornbeam and native field hedges. Some of these villages have their own conservation areas; many have TPOs on parish churchyard yews and field-corner standards.

Not sure if we cover your postcode?

Our standard round runs about 12km from the city centre. If you are inside CT1-CT4 we almost certainly cover you. CT5 (Whitstable) is a different round; we will recommend a local Whitstable contractor rather than travel out for occasional jobs. CT15 (Wingham and surrounding villages) is covered by our sister site winghamhedges.co.uk.
